At any point in a relationship you might develop problems for many different reasons.

Couples attend counselling for numerous reasons:

Have you drifted apart and do you feel disconnected as a couple?
Are things impacting your ability to connect as a couple? Kids? Work?
Has one of you been non-consensually non monogamous?
Are you changing the boundaries of your relationship?
Have you stopped being civil to each other?
Is one of you depressed or struggling?
Are you no longer having sex?

You might be considering separating or you might be searching for a way to make things work and move forward. Couples counselling is a forum for you both as a couple to meet with a therapist and make sense of these issues, and hopefully find strategies to continue forward.

There is a seemingly impossible balance in a relationship between remaining connected and intimate and maintaining a strong sense of self, staying an individual. Are my compromises in good faith or have I become resentful? How much of my real self does my partner fully see and accept? How do we tolerate our differences?

Couples work can be challenging. The beginning of this work is a full history. Your individual histories and your history as a couple. If you commit It often can be profound work with an enormous impact.
